Story setup
Star Wars Zero Company has a more interesting question than whether it can make a blaster look dramatic. Can a Clone Wars story carry the slow, consequential decisions of a turn-based tactics campaign? EA says the game launches August 27 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, with a single-player campaign, custom operators, base upgrades and squad bonds. StarWars.com adds The Den hub, eight species for custom operators and support abilities built through those bonds. PC Gamer’s hands-on also mentions loyalty-style squad stories, permadeath and cinematic exploration, while keeping its quality judgment provisional. That restraint matters. The ingredients are promising because they turn the licence into a squad-management framework rather than a coat of paint over firefights. But ingredients are not a campaign. The real test will be whether character bonds and hard losses produce decisions players actually own. Here is the gameplay trailer.
After the trailer
The squad moves through cover while the top-down targeting makes each movement and ability choice readable before the camera closes in on individual characters. That visual mix matches EA’s description of a turn-based single-player campaign with custom operators, base upgrades and squad bonds. StarWars.com’s detail on The Den and bond-built support abilities suggests the tactical layer extends beyond individual turns. The modest inference is that Zero Company is aiming for a Star Wars campaign shaped by squad decisions, not merely a familiar setting around combat. Adam, close us out.
