Story setup

Game Freak’s new action RPG looks nothing like Pokémon, which is precisely why the studio name keeps swallowing the conversation. Beast of Reincarnation is set in Japan in 4026 and launches August 4. Director Kota Furushima says the realistic presentation suited the action RPG; Game Freak describes it as original work, separate from its licensed Pokémon games. The more revealing choice sits in combat. Emma fights with a sword in real time while Koo supplies command-based skills. That split asks one player to manage two kinds of decision without turning the dog into a cooldown menu. Companion games often sell affection before proving utility. Here, the trailer gives Koo a tactical job from the outset. Watch whether the assistance changes Emma’s options or merely interrupts her animations, and how clearly the game communicates that difference under pressure.

After the trailer

Emma stays in close while Koo’s commands arrive on a separate layer, rather than as automatic help somewhere behind the swordplay. The pair has a readable division of labour even in a busy fight. Hands-on time will tell us whether those commands create real choices, but the structure is already visible. Game Freak may have changed its visual language; it has not abandoned its old interest in building play around a creature partnership. Coordination is the stronger promise here; the realistic Game Freak headline will fade quickly. Zoe, take us underwater with Pokémon Pokopia.
