Story setup

Thursday’s broadcast is selling anticipation. CD Projekt Red has put dates and a long feature list on its own return. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches September 29 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC and, for the first time natively, Nintendo Switch 2. Owners on qualifying PlayStation, Xbox and PC storefronts receive it as a free upgrade. Battle.net joins the PC line-up that day. CD Projekt Red names changes to performance, combat, movement, signs, Roach, monster behaviour, the skill tree, transmog, photo mode and finishers. The trailer shows familiar Geralt imagery, but those system claims come from the studio’s release, not from comparing compressed video frames.

After the trailer

Songs of the Past is the second track: a paid expansion planned for 2027 that takes Geralt to Letten, a rural region built around tradition, folklore and a hidden threat. Fool’s Theory is co-developing it with CD Projekt Red, while Yigsoft works on Remastered. Geralt gains new abilities and a chain weapon, although no price or exact date is announced. Current Witcher 3 owners also receive Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine without another charge. September 29 is therefore a broad refresh of the existing game; 2027 is the genuinely new story. One is an upgrade path with eligibility conditions, the other a separate paid release. Both extend a 2015 game, but they ask for different things from players and from a studio returning to Geralt.
