Story setup
Capcom’s final Onimusha preview moves beyond the public demo. It opens in the surreal Oni Refuge, where Musashi finds a ranged Oni Bow, then returns to a larger Kyoto. Barriers, rifts and new Genma turn exploration into part of the pitch. Capcom also describes dynamic dismemberment that follows the sword’s path. TechRadar calls the combat weighty and methodical, but accessible rather than a Soulslike imitation. The Severing Fates trailer reaches Kyoto’s corrupted shrine. Watch the guarded movement and sudden violence.
After the trailer
The location is Yasui Konpiragu Shrine, a real Kyoto landmark associated with cutting unwanted bonds. A hostile presence has twisted that purpose. The location and combat carry the same unease. Musashi advances carefully, absorbs close pressure, then answers with cuts that have visible direction and weight. The shrine feels like hostile ground rather than a stage built around a finishing move. Wider exploration and a new bow still need to prove their value across the full game, but the final preview has changed the question. Onimusha is no longer asking nostalgia to carry one polished combat demo. It has a broader Kyoto, a surreal space beyond it and tools that can vary the pace. Adam, take us somewhere older.
